While they have a bad history given what happened in the mid-12th century, rats are one of the most companionable creatures. Their natural curiosity makes them innate explorers and attention seekers (in the best way). If you are seeking a smaller companion to hang around your shoulders, cuddle up in your hair, or tuck in your clothes, then you may find yourself adpopting one of these soft critters. Certain species of rats can grow to be unusually large, but that means there is more surface area for petting.
